Buying crypto directly with a credit/debit card

At the time of its inception, the only way of getting hold of Bitcoin (BTC) was through the mining of the coin, or by individuals selling coins to one another, peer to peer (P2P). However, as the coin matured, more ways that the coin could be obtained came to market.

Cryptocurrency exchanges (CEXs) are usually the first thing that comes to mind when buying cryptocurrency. This is the case whether it be Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), or any other major alt coin for that matter.

Although, setting up an account on a centralised exchange is far from the only way of getting in on the action. There are a number of providers available that allow crypto to be purchased by simply entering your card number, your wallet address, and how much crypto you want to invest your cold, hard cash in.

Even though convenient, KYC/AML checks may still be required the first time a purchase is made through a new platform, depending on the provider. With this in mind, any purchases made still won’t necessarily be anonymous. However, these checks aren’t too tedious, and usually uploading a driving license, or a passport, will see the payment card charged and the purchased crypto hit your chosen wallet address in a matter of minutes.

Why would someone buy crypto this way over an exchange you might be asking? There are droves of investors in the crypto community that will avoid an exchange (CEX) whenever they can, as they prefer a non-custodial wallet over a CEXs custodial wallet. After all, not your keys, not your crypto isn’t echoed endlessly across the crypto sphere for no reason, is it?

For your convenience, a list of providers that allow crypto to be purchased by card and sent to a wallet of your choice, have been showcased below, helping to keep your crypto currency in your control.
